SUPPORTING MARITIME COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
honouring
Above: We had a great guest speaker last March who told us about the Maritime component of the Michigan National Guard's annual NORTHERN STRIKE exercise and discussed another drone exercise called SILENT SWARM. Additionally, he updated us on the Mark VI Patrol Boats, which will be coming to Alpena in June.

Members of the Commanders Club gathered to honor and express condolences to the families of both CDR Brian Wensauer and CDR Sam Kennedy at their funerals this year. The services paid tribute to their significant contributions and lasting impact on the community and various organizations. They will both be fondly remembered for their steadfast dedication and service.

youth leadership development
The Michigan Commanders Battalion proudly continues the legacy of its dedicated sponsor, the Commanders Club of Michigan (CCM). With roots dating back to the Michigan Naval Militia established in 1893, CCM champions maritime heritage, supports naval recruitment, and honors those who served on the Great Lakes. Featuring the iconic Seabee logo, the battalion emphasizes hands-on skills, teamwork, and resilience, reflecting the versatile spirit of naval construction units. Just as the Seabees embody strength and adaptability, the Michigan Commanders Battalion is committed to shaping young cadets into confident leaders dedicated to community service and personal growth.

respect
Below: February guest speaker was Mr Bill Krieger, courtesy of CDRs Miller and Pell. By all accounts his presentation of “Veteran Archives” was very well received.
April: CAPT Luke Clyburn, who wears three hats running the Great Lakes Sea Cadets unit, captains the “Pride of Michigan”, and runs the Noble Odyssey Foundation. It was great to have CAPT Luke talk about his support to the maritime community in the state over many years, which included several unique diving operations on various topics in the Great Lakes.
May: CAPT Thom Burke provided a valuable overview of the Order of Battle of the United States Navy, highlighting current ships and future planned vessels. He also shared a photograph from his time as Captain of the USS Ronald Reagan, enhancing understanding of naval leadership and capabilities.
September: Doug Lloyd is currently serving as the Prosecutor for Eaton County and has an accomplished career in the field. He gave us his perspective on our current system in Michigan as he considers a potential run for Attorney General.
October: CAPT Tim Kennedy gave a speech about the WWII Attack on Bari, Italy. He shared important details about the event and discussed the bravery of those involved. His presentation was engaging and led to thoughtful discussions about the lessons from this moment in history.
November: CDR Mark Northrup talked about his trip to Normandy, sharing his experiences and insights. Phil Leerar discussed the Oscarsborg Fortress Attack, explaining its importance.
